The South London Massif prevail!

Standard

Just going to get the result our the way…

We won! Somehow “The South London Massif” with a collective age of 19 defeated at least six other teams for a clear victory. Having said this, our team did comprise of three Oxford students (two present, one soon attending), and the other three of us are also attending top universities so we were expecting a decent performance once we’d made our team.

Our reward? A £30 bar tab, instantly spent on 6 shots of coffee tequila, one for each team member. It was a pricey pub for anything but beer, and even then, but that’s what you expect from a pub in South London.

The pub where the quiz was held was Hagen and Hyde in Balham, and it’s a great pub; a very good selection of beers as well as interesting spirits/liqueurs such as bacon vodka. It’s also not that expensive with a pint of lager setting you back around £4. Of course it’s not Wetherspoons prices, but the company is better, there’s good music and the staff are very friendly and helpful if unsure what you want exactly.

The quiz itself was entertaining as well as mentally stimulating, with a mixture of general knowledge, picture rounds, cryptic clues, and intro rounds (sort of like the “Never mind the Buzzcocks” round but the intro is played out loud instead of sung). We worked well as team, and after we finished, we celebrated by reliving old school memories, and laughed all night until the pub closed and we were politely asked to leave.

All in all, I think it was a very successful evening and one that I want to recreate week after week. So next week “The South London Massif” will be returning to try and keep their crown, albeit two strong team members down but we will try and prevail and if we do maybe we’ll get more than just a shot each.
